Hey Jim! I have spent
the 20 years of my life growing up listening to your music. My mother
and her friends discovered you back when they were in high school
and she has always held a special place in her heart for your music.
Mom made sure that my little sister and I knew who you were and had
every word memorized. Timberline, the only song we listened to going
up into the mountains and the only song leaving. thank you for being
such a big part of my world and writting the words so mom could pass
them down!

tunes of your favorite artists to play - I loved the song by Ellis

me) artists! Hopefully you'll be coming to Chicago soon. You may already
know about the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago which is quite
an institution. They do TONS of kids programs and kids concerts and

How can I not delight in the mere mention of the name ? I can`t think
of one and not the other: joy rolls off my mind, when I think of the
banjo-Jim. Those Fields of Daisies, make me Grateful for the Feeling,
that I find in Genuine Colorado. Every day I wake up feeling that
It`s a Nice Day for Religion, a nice day for my dreams to come true
(the bacon`s frying). And so, I never have nightmares these days:
I wake up with Blue River Dreams, on my mind, on my mind. This was
the man who heard the gentle muse calling him from a Nebraska field.
What a mystery that a Colorado Nature boy, came from the land of corn.
He traveled for quite a while, the tunes went all over the waves,
but maybe he got tired of the 9 to 5. Dolly, she was quite fun, but
the Mountain muse was waiting, to fill the Scott with Her tunes. Summit
County was lonely waiting for her Groom, But perked up when She heard
the Muse, whisper “Jim`s come home, and I`ll impart your name,
and it will be soon!” So when now I go up on the Timberline,
I hear more than just the wind, I hear the echo of my Colorado friend.
There are those who play for the dough, those who play for Music Row.
But then there are those that entertain from the Mountains Above.

Hi Jim, Just retired
from Axtell School so maybe I can do more things in music. Hope you'll
be in Kearney one of these days. Do you ever hear from Bill Ganz?
A guy by the name of Bruce Pollock published a story of mine in anthology
"Working Musicians". It includes storys by Paul Simon, Harry Connick
Jr. and Scotty Moore of Elvis fame. Did I ever tell you this story?
In 1956 I was sitting in the City Cafe in Minden when 3 men walked
in. I believe to this day it was Elvis, SCOTTY and Bill. they pulled
out in a yellow caddy convertible. Everyone told me Elvis only had
Pink Caddys BUT this week on the internet I found ot he bought a yellow
caddy convert. in 1955. Anyway I was so impressed I got a job as a
rockabilly for 3 years on ch 13 "Midwest Jamboree" 56-59. I changed
to Blues and Folk in the 70s but still love the rockabilly and you
are truest to your art of anyone I've ever known. The first time I
met you I was selling guitars at Bahr Schaal in Kearney. Hope everything
keeps going good for you! Your friend Bob Ayres bobayres1@hotmail.com

We vacationed in
Colorado the first week of August and was fortunate to hear you sing
in Breckenridge. We enjoyed great songs with great meanings! Our three
boys (8, 6 and 3) were drawn to your music. We again heard you a couple
of days later in Frisco. We had no idea who would be singing at the
"Concert in the Park". We were pleasantly surprised and once again
well entertained. It was so cool that you brought your son, James,
up to sing a song! We bought 2 CDs there. Our boys like the song -
Don't Laugh at Me - a great lesson for all. Even our 3 year old knows
the words. We all look forward to hearing you again some day.

Jim, I was a UNL
student in the late 70's, and we used to "rock" to the Timberline
album. The song "Turn it Up" was our dorm floor theme song, and we
used to listen to it before we had intramural games, etc. I would
love to have the c.d. of that album, but can't find it anywhere...it's
one of my all time favorites. Are you ever in the Omaha/Lincoln area
for shows...I'll bet I could round up a bunch of old buddies/spouses

My family and I
had the privilege of being at your Teddy Bear Concert in Leadville,
CO on the 4th of July. It has been a long time since I've enjoyed
a live show as much as I enjoyed that one; and I see a lot of shows,
and I play a lot of shows. I was struck by your sincerity and honesty,
and the way those qualities make themselves plain to the audience,
allowing you to connnect with them. I was glad to see you tear up
during the Vietnam War song. Most of us in the crowd had been tearing
up off and on for the whole concert. We'll make a point of seeing
you again when we can. You were the highlight of our 4th of July.

unable to get you up here again to perform "After the War." I was
wondering if you could send me the words and chords so that I could
give it a whirl. I'm no Jim Salestrom but I'm positive that the guys
would love to hear Hector Gonzales story again. That's if I can make
it through the song without breaking down with the emotion that this
song so deeply arouses in us all. Thanks. Steve Dine
